The Wrecker is the second novel in a new Western series by “one of the greatest adventure novelists of our time” (imdb). It promises to become perhaps the most popular Clive Cussler series yet. Because, let’s face it, stories about the Wild West never lose their appeal to American (as well as International) audiences.

As with the first novel in the series, The Chase, the hero of The Wrecker is a detective named Isaac Bell who combines the sleuthing brilliance of Sherlock Holmes with the physical prowess and fearlessness of James Bond.

Conveniently, Isaac Bell is also independently wealthy, heir to a prominent Boston banking family. After disappointing his father by not following in his footsteps, Bell has pursued his detective work with a fervor that spells obsessive passion more than a way to make a living.

Isaac Bell gets hired by the Southern Pacific Railroad Company to find and stop a saboteur known as “The Wrecker,” who has targeted Southern Pacific construction sites throughout the West. If the sabotage continues in the midst of pressing deadlines to finish work on a major new track, it could cost Southern Pacific its good standing with its lenders, and rapidly lead to bankruptcy.

Reminiscent of Sherlock Holmes’ arch-nemesis Professor Moriarty, the villain known as The Wrecker is nearly as brilliant as Isaac Bell himself. Unbeknownst to all, until the end of the book, The Wrecker hides in plain sight, right within the innermost circles of his adversaries.

The goal of the Wrecker is to gain control of the entire United States railroad system, at a time in history when railroad barons such as Harriman and Vanderbilt were the wealthiest men in America, beginning with the Southern Pacific Railroad.

Set in the early twentieth century, the novel of course presents a golden opportunity for automobile enthusiast Clive Cussler to have fun with several classic automobiles from the age when the invention of the car was in its infancy and the experimental variety in styles was greater than ever in history.

The Wrecker features the 1907 Model 35 Thomas Flyer, winner of the 1908 New York to Paris race, as well as a Packard Grey Wolf, a Bugatti Type 41 Royale, and Isaac Bell’s own Locomobile.

Although Clive Cussler may be best known for his love of diving and sea exploration, both through his fictional stories and non-fictional enterprises, he obviously also cherishes the rugged landscapes of the American West. Why else would he have chosen to live in the mountains of Colorado, as far from the sea as you can get in the United States?

This “second” love of Clive Cussler shines through in his new Isaac Bell series in a way that will likely reinvigorate many old Wild West enthusiasts as well as give birth to a whole new generation of Western lovers. The book is a highly recommended read.

Find Out All The Types of Different Paint System To Use On Your Car

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

If you have decided to paint your car, then you are in for a real adventure, and hopefully a positive one. Many people do paint their cars and they turn out great. There is no reason yours won?t, if you follow the rules and guidelines. One of the most crucial things you have to do is make sure you purchase the right car paints, and that you use them exactly as instructed. Like any technology the car paints have taken on a different character and changes over the years. Naturally they must stay consistent with what the car manufacturers are using or there would be no compatibility in the car paints at all.

You will see when you go to buy your paints that there is a variety, so you will have to make some choices. It is not a cheap commodity, so you want to be sure before you start that you are going to have the budget to buy your car paints in enough quantity to finish the job.

One of the things you will need to determine when you buy the car paints, is do you have the equipment that may be necessary to use that particular paint. For example, if it is a brand of paint that requires application with a spay gun, then do you have access to one. Unless you are inclined to do so, its unlikely you are going to want to buy a lot of additional equipment just for this one time project. Unless of course you are planning on painting other cars in the future and this would be a investment for you.

Its not just the color of the car paints that you have to decide upon, you are going to need to apply a primer as well. Once again you must consider how this is to be applied. The other alternative to buying paints that require a sprayer is to by the spray paint tins. Some individuals feel that it is more expensive to go that route, but if you don?t have to buy extra equipment, then the cost maybe very comparable.

You need to be sure that you are going to be able to purchase more of the paint should you run out. Can you imagine the disaster it would be if you got the car 3/4s finished and couldn?t get more car paints because they were end of the line and you bought them on sale?

In either the paints that you use a spray gun with or aerosol cans there are a variety of brands available. Make sure you purchase from a reputable dealer, and hopefully one that can give you some advice. No doubt everyone will have some favorite brands, but a little research on your part will help as well.

Don?t forget that you will also need to buy a top coat as well when you go to buy your paints. Don?t penny pinch when it comes to this one. You will have put a lot of hard work into painting your car and you want the effects to last. You can achieve this with a good product.

Things To Consider When Camping

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Camping out in the wilderness or in a camp is definitely an extraordinary experience one can have. Camping has been the favorite outdoor activity most people like to do. Maybe because of their excitement, most people forget the basic things to consider and do when going camping. Allow us to refresh your memory about the most basic things to do when camping.

First and foremost create a master list of activities you want to try while camping. This checklist is something I tell all my clients of my San Diego RV rentals that they should do. This master list must also include some rules and regulations that all campers must follow. Before you start a day you need to check everything you will be doing and what specific things to use.

The next thing to remember is keep a tight schedule of every activity. The reason for this is to ensure that you will have time for all the activities listed in your master list. Ensure that meal times, sleeping times and wake up call are properly observed and followed. This is sometimes easier to do when you rent an RV like the ones at my Campland on the Bay RV rentals because it allows you to keep things like sleeping and eating in more of a routine because everything is conveniently set up for you with an RV. Once you are delayed with one activity will cause a delay on the next one.

It is also a must to have a regular cleaning up time for all areas in your camp site. Every camper must be involved in this clean up for it to be successful. Gather your campers and make sure they understand that it is not right to just leave food, drinks and other consumable stuff lying around. It will also be a great idea to appoint each camper a particular task to do every clean up time. This way you will save more time and effort instead of stopping the activities so you can call them to clean.

And the last camping idea to remember is to have fun. This trip is about spending time with the people who really matter in your life. Have fun together doing the various activities you chose and enjoy eating the food you brought and cooked. Everyday in the campsite will give you a chance to bond with your loved ones so stay together to maximize your camping trip.

Going camping wll surely be a blast when you keep these tips in mind the next time you go camping. If you follow the tips listed above you will surely enjoy your camping trip with your loved ones. When going camping with your family and friends do apply these tips. All these tips will enable you to create a wonderful memory to be treasured, a wonderful camping trip together.

Driving An RV

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

RV is a good vehicle to use and to bring for outdoor activities like camping, touring and vacation. The RV was specifically designed to cater to people with activities like these. RVs can be rented or if you have the budget you can go ahead and purchase one. Or you can rent one like the ones at my San Diego RV rentals to see if you would enjoy buying one.

RVs can do a lot of things for you. Once you learn them most people can’t wait to go out and hit the road. Read on to get to know the RV better as the multipurpose vehicle.

Rvs decreases your worries when traveling. RVs consist of different equipments and tools similar to what we have in our houses. Inside the RV you can cook, watch TV and even sleep. The nicest thing about an RV is that you can be at home away from home. Many customers of my Campland on the Bay RV rentals tell me that is one of the favorite things about using an RV.

Rvs are also a way of saving money. RVs are used by people who go on tours by land with their families. RVs will provide a place to stay for families on vacation therefore saving on hotel stays. Another nice thing about RVs is that when you choose to live in it you are exempt from council taxes and you won’t worry about home mortgage.

Last but not the least, is that RV gives you more comfort and convenience. You own your time when you use an RV for vacations and tours. For camping, an RV provides you a more organized space and safer place to live in than a tent. RV is well used when there is a need to evacuate during bad atmospheric conditions. At least you still have the privacy with your family when you have your own RV.

Those are the great things an RV has to offer for you. Outdoor activities will surely be easier with an RV.

Denny Hamlin Pays Tribute To Late Grandmother With NASCAR Win

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Denny Hamlin ended a sophomore slump of sorts when he won the rain delayed Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway. The win was Hamlins first of the season and broke a 50 race winless streak. His last victory had come in 2008 at Martinsville Raceway.

After the race, an emotional Hamlin dedicated the victory to his grandmother who passed away late last week at the age of 91:

She understands the competition of the sport and she understands how much she means to me. Like today, she’s pretty proud. We definitely had some angels with us today.”

Hamlin has always raced well on the unique triangle configuration track at Pocono. He swept both races here as a rookie in 2006 and after the race his boss J.D. Gibbs made note of that fact:

I told him earlier, we’re going to lobby for a few extra races at Pocono”

Hamlin moved up to fifth in the NASCAR championship points standings after the victory. Tony Stewart increased his lead over Jimmie Johnson to 197 points with a top ten finish.

Clint Bowyer finished third and expressed pleasure with the solid performance in his postrace comments:

“Things haven’t been going our way all year long so it feels good to have something swing our way.

Former Indy Car driver Sam Hornish, Jr. took fourth”his best finish since coming to NASCAR. Kasey Kahne wound up in fifth place.

Points leader Stewart will have a good opportunity to increase his lead this weekend, as NASCAR heads to Watkins Glen, NY to race on the road course there. Stewart is considered not only the best road course driver among current NASCAR competitors, but arguably the best of all time. The following week NASCAR travels to the Michigan International Speedway for the CarFax 400.

Be First Off The Grid With F1 Show Cars

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

There are few things as exciting in the world of sport as Formula One, and many want to share in the occasion. However, getting even the smallest association with a team or drivers is beyond the means of most. But it is here that F1 show cars can really come into their own; providing a touch of the glamour and style the sport brings.

There are three different types of F1 show cars however, so choosing which one to go for is not necessarily the easiest of tasks. At the lower end, is the replica which, as the name suggests is just the shell of the car. At the high end, is a fully working replica. In the middle ground, which many seek, is the model which includes a simulator.

The first type, a lovingly built replica of an actual car is the cheapest. These can be part of amazing displays; perhaps to work into a themed party, or an event coinciding with a race on the F1 circuit throughout the year. But they are only there for show, and lack any real purpose other than to evoke reaction.

At the other end of the scale is the working replica, complete with an engine that can be driven. However, these are extremely expensive of course and, though not nearly as powerful as the real thing, can take some time to get used to driving. For corporate away days, or a memorable party though, there are companies that can organize track days in such cars.

With the simulator, it is almost the best of both worlds. They afford the look and impact of a replica, but allow a certain amount of real driving experience. Again, they make for wonderful showcases and really can lift an event's success and popularity.

For corporate events, and private parties, having F1 show cars really do add a touch of glamour and style that is synonymous with the sport itself. With an option of types to go for too, there is certain to be something to suit all budgets and preferences.

The Formula One World Series is about as exciting as motorsport gets, and the rise in popularity from across the globe over recent years has been incredible. An affordable means to get involved in the sport lies with F1 show car hire. More information on this and F1 Pit Stop Challenge .

How To Keep Yourself Safe When Camping

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

One of the best ways to experience nature with your family and friends is through camping. There are options you can choose from for your activities while camping such as fishing and hiking. When you go camping follow safety rules and regulations of camps. Always be wary to follow the safety rules and regulations in the camp site. This article would give you some guides on how to be prepared and have safety before camping.

First, check the location where you want to build your campsite. Keep in mind the safety of all campers when choosing the area. You can search for references if the said area is safe. You might also like to know more about the current safety features on your preferred camping area. Of course you could always rent an RV because it relieves some of these issues, like a lot of my customers do of my San Diego RV rentals company.

Another consideration is the weather. Changes in weather conditions occur. You need to be prepared when there is an unexpected storm coming your way. It would be better to go out and camp during summer or spring time. Now of course if you were in an RV that would make it easier to deal with the weather like most of my clients of my Campland on the Bay RV rentals company.

Next, prepare your supplies and first aid kit. Maps, flashlights and matches are examples of some of the things you should bring. Bring plenty of water and food. For personal hygiene and health precaution bring soap, lotions and other sin care products. Always bring a first aid kit for any untoward incidents. Remember to take any necessary supplies when camping.

Talk to the group about the safety rules that you will be following. Do not feed and play with animals is always a reminder that you should reiterate. Do not go wandering off on your own, always stick to your appointed partner. Instruct them on ways of using the tools and equipments for the camp and demonstrate how to set up tents. When building a fire, make sure that the fire is not located near tents or other flammable items. See to it that you supervise well and teach them about safety.

Obey what you can and can’t do in the camp for safety. Have an overview for planning so you could start and finish camping without someone getting hurt. The most important thing though while camping is to enjoy it with your family and friends. These are the moments that you will look back upon in the coming years so enjoy it.

Trout Fishing To Mountain Climbing Islamabad Can Lead To It All

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

Cruising along the several boulevards in Islamabad you cannot help but notice the astounding prevalence of SUV models here versus any other main city in Pakistan. One would at once correlate this situation with the sizable population of farm owners and political VIPs living in Islamabad but that is not the only motivation for the pervasive usage of four-wheel drives here. Islamabad is one of Pakistan’s only designed, contemporary cities skirted by impressive lush hills and leads to a multitude of awesome areas in the northern areas of Pakistan.

Avenues going from Islamabad to several places up North have witnessed enormous enhancement in the past several years. However, past a precise spot, smooth roads are no longer easily found and most of the area is unapproachable by regular automobiles. Villages are reachable via paths formed by constant use and are utilized by more accomplished drivers who are accustomed to these places and have recurrently driven on these routes. With sharp descents and several landslides it is imprudent for individuals unaccustomed with these places to drive without the presence of a guide.

The most reliable SUVs utilized to gain access to these places include the Mitsubishi Intecooler and the Prado Land Cruiser. Many open-top jeeps are also utilized but are not as well liked with families due to the probability of rainfall or the chilly climate. It is effortless to lease one of these automobiles along with a seasoned driver for individually organized outings or as normally promoted tour packages. It is always a clever decision to pay a little additional cash and opt for a trustworthy tour guide to preclude any dreaded results.

The enthralling northern areas are home to a number of the most wondrous places all over the planet. It is in these places that world famous mountain ranges like the Karakoram and Himalayas join and are a well-liked spot for climbers. One more appealing place reachable in your SUV is the Kalash valley, whose residents are presumed to be the offspring of the Greek armies led by Alexander the Great. A comparably unaffected society, their culture continues to stay mostly the same ever since ancient times. There is a lot to see here including their individual life style.

A number of streams and lakes can also be discovered in the northern areas of Pakistan, the most well-liked being Saiful Muluk, situated a amazing3200 meters above sea level making it one of the highest lakes on the globe. The atmosphere is wondrous and glittering waters reflect the astonishingly superb adjacent snow laden mountaintops. Trout fishing is an admired pursuit in these places and a good location for anglers. The renowned Shandur Pass also provides two very superb lakes.

To consider the full area in detail would need a proper manuscript and a lot of these are quite easily purchasable in Pakistan as well as abroad. Pakistan is fortunate to have astonishingly dazzling places like Kalam and Rumbur and an assortment of influences from old civilizations like Greeks. The northern areas require numerous trips and countless days to cover totally and it is always judicious to drive in a trustworthy SUV to make the experience somewhat more gratifying.

The ample range of used cars for sale in Islamabad include many European automobiles as well.

A Solution to Pollution by Maxiscooting

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Some people seek to lower their carbon footprint. Some are less willing to pay out big bucks at the gas pump since the economy is so bad these days. Both of these factors are leading people to discover the joy of owning a maxiscoot for basic transportation and commuting.

Aside from being totally fun to ride scooters are also environmentally friendly. They are an incredible economical way to travel as well.

Scooters normally have been powered by rather small engines between the range of 50cc to 200c. For a short commute these traditional small engine scooters have been ok. If you have a longer commute or a freeway ride you will need more than these scooters can deliver.

This allows the scooter to travel at speeds close to 100 mph, allowing for travel on interstates and highways as well as making them more fun and fuel efficient. The average fuel consumption for MaxiScoots is between 50-69 mpg, depending on the manufacturer.

Beyond the personal satisfaction of experiencing significant savings on gasoline, adopting a motor scooter as an alternative form of transportation offers much in the way of societal benefits. Eco-friendly scooters reduce fossil fuels consumption, pollution in the form of carbon dioxide emissions and help to relieve traffic congestion.

What’s really great about the maxiscoot style is that in addition to the better performance you get more miles to the gallon compared to a car. Helping to reduce pollution and fatten your wallet at the same time makes these scooters an environmental hero.

Depending on the make and model you choose you may get an average of 50 to 69 mpg. This is quite a big difference compared to a car getting anywhere from 15 to 25 mpg.

So get out there and get started saving money and the planet by riding a maxiscoot. The fun you get just from riding a maxiscoot will have you feeling like a kid again and you’ll be cleaning the air as you ride!

Bjorn Freshwater is a maxiscoot enthusiast and is currently Leader of the World’s Most Notorious Scooter Gang.
