If you have decided to paint your car, then you are in for a real adventure, and hopefully a positive one. Many people do paint their cars and they turn out great. There is no reason yours won?t, if you follow the rules and guidelines. One of the most crucial things you have to do is make sure you purchase the right car paints, and that you use them exactly as instructed. Like any technology the car paints have taken on a different character and changes over the years. Naturally they must stay consistent with what the car manufacturers are using or there would be no compatibility in the car paints at all.

You will see when you go to buy your paints that there is a variety, so you will have to make some choices. It is not a cheap commodity, so you want to be sure before you start that you are going to have the budget to buy your car paints in enough quantity to finish the job.

One of the things you will need to determine when you buy the car paints, is do you have the equipment that may be necessary to use that particular paint. For example, if it is a brand of paint that requires application with a spay gun, then do you have access to one. Unless you are inclined to do so, its unlikely you are going to want to buy a lot of additional equipment just for this one time project. Unless of course you are planning on painting other cars in the future and this would be a investment for you.

Its not just the color of the car paints that you have to decide upon, you are going to need to apply a primer as well. Once again you must consider how this is to be applied. The other alternative to buying paints that require a sprayer is to by the spray paint tins. Some individuals feel that it is more expensive to go that route, but if you don?t have to buy extra equipment, then the cost maybe very comparable.

You need to be sure that you are going to be able to purchase more of the paint should you run out. Can you imagine the disaster it would be if you got the car 3/4s finished and couldn?t get more car paints because they were end of the line and you bought them on sale?

In either the paints that you use a spray gun with or aerosol cans there are a variety of brands available. Make sure you purchase from a reputable dealer, and hopefully one that can give you some advice. No doubt everyone will have some favorite brands, but a little research on your part will help as well.

Don?t forget that you will also need to buy a top coat as well when you go to buy your paints. Don?t penny pinch when it comes to this one. You will have put a lot of hard work into painting your car and you want the effects to last. You can achieve this with a good product.

Learn About How To Arc Weld Here

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

Learn how to arc weld with this FREE guide. Arc welding is often attempted by many home handymen in the workshop or home garage. It can be a bit daunting at first for many people, especially if they have never tried doing this before. This guide will h

First things first we must start with the safety. You’re going to need to firstly get yourself a pair of welding gloves, ideally a 100% leather full length glove is best. These usually come up to just before your elbow and offer greater protection as they cover more of your arms. To protect the rest of your upper body wear a very thick heavy duty workshop type shirt. Cotton drill material is often used for work shirts so this would be a good material to look for in a work shirt. The same goes for your pants as you want something strong and heavy duty, usually a pair of jeans work well for this.

When you are welding there is often spatter and hot sparks flying around all over the place. I have learned the hard way by not wearing fully enclosed footwear. I have burnt myself many times from just using sandals and flip-flops. Please use fully enclosed leather work boots to protect the tops of your feet from the hot welding spatter. Welding and grinding go hand in hand so you are also going to need some protective eyewear and some earplugs. Get a full face shield mask because just using safety glasses won’t protect the rest of your face.

You can’t weld without using a welding helmet, so you’re going to need to make sure you have one that you can use. I like using those automatic darkening welding helmets as I find they make it really easy for me to see where I’m welding. I would definitely recommend any beginner to get one of these helmets.

Before you start getting carried away and start welding, make sure that you clean down everywhere that you want to weld first. This means grinding off any rust or paint and any other contaminants such as oil and grease. These impurities on the metal will give you all sorts of grief when you’re trying to arc weld.

Welding rod selection. The best rod for a beginner to use is a standard type general purpose electrode. These can be bought anywhere and you don’t have to go to any specialist welding shop to get them. They are marked as a GP rod and have the AWS marking of 6013. They are easy to strike and hold an arc, with the capabilities to weld in all positions. There will be a description on the packet telling you how many amps to run these particular rods at.

So now you can turn the machine on and set it up, adjusting the amperage to that which is stated on the back of the welding electrode packet and you’ll be right to go. Ideally if you have a few spare G clamps lying around you can clamp down your piece of metal onto your workbench so that it doesn’t move around when you try to start the arc. Also attach the ground clamp from the welder to the metal.

I recommend you use the scratch technique to get the arc started. This is just like striking a match except you are using a dirty great big long welding electrode. The idea is to drag or scratch the plate until the arc starts. Keep doing this over and over again until you can start it all the time. Once you master this you should be able to start the arc and hold it burning in the one spot.

Stringer bead. The next step is to make a stringer bead, which is simply just a continuous weld bead in a straight line. Follow on from striking the arc in the one spot by leaning the electrode over about 15-16 degrees towards the way you want to make the bead. Then slowly move along, keeping the rod about 1/8 of an inch above the base metal (3mm). Do this until you have burnt up a stack of rods. You need to be confident with this.

This has been an arc welding basics lesson on how to arc weld.

The next step for you is to follow this link on how to arc weld, and see some welding videos and more arc welding instructions here http://www.learn-how-to-weld.com/how-to-arc-weld.html.

Need to Balance the Look of Your Car with Custom Wheels?

Friday, January 1st, 2010

So, you’ve become obsesses with modifying your car. Have you looked at your’ wheels recently?

The top-off on the car is the wheels. They can balance the rest of the modifications you’ve placed on the car. they can also slightly affect how well your’ car handles.

There are 2 things to think about when dealing with your’ rims. One is that customizing the look can make or break the car. The second thing is that by getting rims that are a bit lighter, you can shave a couple of pounds of weight off the car, making it drive better.

DPE (Dynamic Performance Engineering) has 4 wheel styles:

1) Signature Series – The signature is a 3-piece wheel with a polished lip. Most of the Signature series has the bolts standing out as the fashion feature.

2) GT/LS Series – The GT and LS wheels are 2 piece with a chrome lip instead of polished. The GT Wheels have the spokes set into the rim, while the LS wheels have the rim spokes sticking out of the wheel.

2) R Series – The R series is a two-piece just like the GT/LS series.

4) MT – The MT series are monoblock (built out of one peice) which gives it a very distintive look. They are a recent addition – having been launched in September ‘09. That being said, the MT wheels don’t stick out or in as much as the LS, GT and Signature series, as they are created from one block.

Each DPE Wheel has a number of options including preferred lip, fastener/bolt/rivet color and multiple finishes

The standard options on most of the wheels (for color) are silver, black and chrome.

You can also choose to customize the color by adding 2-tone colors to the rims. When you add the options to paint the rivets, bolts and fasteners a seperate color, there’s alot of opportunity for customization.

They also have some custom fasteners to choose from. Stainless steel (Good Looking), aluminum (Standard) or titanium(saves 1 pound or so of weight per wheel).

Putting DPE Wheels on your’ BMW to replace the standard rimsare a great way to enhance your’ BMW Rims and look. Stealth Auto offers many choices for the BMW Modding enthusiast.

Overview Of The EU Neuwagen

Friday, November 20th, 2009

When a person wants to buy a car in Germany it can be very expensive. There are several fees and taxes included in the purchase of a new car that often make it unaffordable. EU Neuwagens are re-imported cars that reduce the cost of getting a new car in Germany significantly.

Part of the fees and taxes include a VAT and Luxury tax. Even when a person is ready to pay the extra costs for purchasing a new car, they usually find that there is a wait list. For many people who want to buy a new car in Germany the EU Neu cars provide an excellent option.

Cars that have been re-imported to Germany are available immediately to purchasers. These cars are re-imported from many European countries, such as Spain, Denmark, etc. A person buying a EU Neuwagen is not paying additional fees for the car to be imported. As a matter of fact, the cars average about 30% less than cars purchased in Germany.

EU dealers take care of all of the details of getting the re-imported car. The purchaser receives a new car with the manufacturer’s warranty in tact. They get the same benefits as if the new car were purchased in Germany. Except, they are paying up to 30% less for the car and they don’t have to wait to get it.

An added benefit for purchasers is that they do not need to do anything to get the car re-imported. The EU Neuwagen dealer takes care of paperwork and details regarding the importing of the car. Most people report that their car arrives to them with 0 km on the meter.

When a person needs financing or wants to lease a vehicle, there is no need to use another dealer. The EU Neuwagen dealers provide financing opportunities as well as several leasing options. The cars are taken to the dealership for maintenance and repairs just like any other new car.

The greatest benefit of purchasing an EU Newagen has got to be the tremendous cost savings. However, the fact that a person can get a car when they want and that the dealer will deliver cars nationwide is also a great advantage. This can be true, but there are cases where you can get good quality without the high price tag. In today’s market, a person has countless options to choose from when selecting tires, including quality tires that are cheap to help those people on a budget.

Following the factory recommendations for size and ratings, should always be a primary concern when you are seeking the most advantageous bargain on cheap tire, no matter what type of tires you are in the market for. Locating a reputable dealer will be your next step, particularly if you are doing business on the internet. You will need to ask some critical questions, such as what the tire and mileage warranties are and what the total cost including home delivery.

Finding retailers that provide installation services will save you the extra effort of locating someone who can put the tires on your vehicle. The Pink Princess

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

In the last few years, there has been a new colour invading high fashion and personal accessories: the colour pink. Pink lovers are finding new ways to incorporate their favourite colour, using pink as a fashion statement that seems to represent a whole outlook on life, even become an obsession. How did this trend start?

The History of Pink – Pink has been used as a colour in fashion and make-up for centuries. However, it was only after the second World War that pink became associated with femininity. Before World War II, baby boys were often dressed in pink, as red was viewed as a masculine colour, and pink was just a “watered down” red. (By contrast, baby girls were typically dressed in blue.) However, after World War II, pink began to be associated with traditional womanhood.

As women began to return from the wartime factories into the home in the’50s, there was a rise in consumer goods, which prompted women to purchase more pink products. (Pink represented the blush of health and vitality, and was particularly popular as a make-up color.) Audrey Hepburn, the great icon of’50s femininity, appeared in the film “Funny Face” in’57, which included the song “Think Pink.” The pink-clad Barbie doll was also introduced in the’50s, further linking the color pink to girlishness. In the’60s, pink became the color of anti-masculinity in film “The Pink Panther”. In the’80s, songs like “Pink Cadillac” and “Pretty in Pink” played with the idea of pink femininity, and in 2000, the singer Pink emerged on the scene with a shock of hot pink hair.

What Started the Current Pink Obsession? – The real cause of the current pink obsession may be the 2001 film “Legally Blond.” In the film, Reese Witherspoon stars as Elle Woods, a law student with a pink-clad Chihuahua who manages to overcome the sexism of her cruel boyfriend and the legal system by pluckiness and a love of the colour pink. The film, which depicts how a woman can simultaneously be intelligent and sexy, was so popular that it was even turned into a Broadway musical. The popularity of pink climbed as women began to embrace the colour as the perfect symbol of modern femininity.

Pink in the Home – Those in search of a rosier world can now find a wide range of ways to decorate their homes in fashionable pink things. Pink can be the dominant colour scheme for a room, or it can be used as an accent colour to bring a little fun to the everyday. In the bedroom, pink blankets and sheets create a cosy haven, with pink fuzzy slippers waiting at the foot of the bed. In the bathroom, pink toothbrushes and shower curtains can create a sense of pampering, and pink clocks and rugs create elegant touches for the living room as well. Pink has even invaded the kitchen. Now pink kitchen accessories are available, from pink kettles and toasters to a pink microwave oven!

Pink Travelling – Pink extends far beyond the home, however. There are not only pink cars but also pink car accessories, such as flashlights, key chains, and even mats for seats and floors. Foreign travellers can also look into purchasing entire luggage systems that are decorated in pink. These not only coordinate with other pink items, but are also easy to spot at the airport.

A Psychology of Pink – A “pink princess” is the nickname given to women devoted to the colour pink. Pink princesses embrace pink as a whole identity, a personal statement and an outlook on life. Edith Piaf’s song “Ma Vie En Rose” translates well for these pink lovers: “My Life in Pink.” The colour offers a wonderful combination of associations: on the one hand, pink is soft and flirty, but it is also elegant and fashionable. The growing field of colour psychology makes even more dramatic claims about pink, arguing that the presence of pink even has the power to soothe. Studies suggest that even criminals may behave better when surrounded by the colour pink.

The rising pink trend may prove to be about more than a fashion. It may be about pink lovers adopting a new outlook on life. There is a reason for the phrase “seeing the world through rose colored glasses.” Surrounding people with pink may actually make them happier.

This Is Must Know Information Should You Need New Truck Tires

Monday, November 9th, 2009

When you consider tires for your truck, it’s important to remember that your wheels are about more than just looking good and a stylish appearance. You should carefully contemplate the type of tires that you purchase for your truck as your wheels have great bearing on the performance of the vehicle.

The wheels that you select will be adding to the value, performance, and overall power of your truck, as well as helping your truck turn a few heads. Off road trucks rely heavily on the proper tires, so this decision is equally as vital as the type of truck, itself, that you choose.

You need to keep a few factors in mind when you shop for tires. The first thing you have to decide as you begin your research is how big a role the tires will play for your truck. For example, the version of truck tires you get can greatly impact the vehicle’s braking, handling, ride quality, safety, and traction. Your truck’s tires are as important as all of the other parts of your vehicle, and you should never take them for granted.

If you want to keep your tires looking brand new and shiny over time, you need to take care of them. Also by doing this you will ensure that your vehicle will perform at its highest level possible. The tires are connected to your brakes, suspension system, and axles which means that your tires directly affect the stability of your truck.

Other aspects of your truck can sustain damage as a result of a failing tire, thus, ensuring that you have the proper tires, and they are being regularly maintained is of paramount importance.

You may be inclined to first look for tires that will enhance your truck’s appearance, but it is crucial to examine the performance and safety features when selecting tires. When searching for tires, truck tire reviews are a great resource to ensure the best possible tire choice for your truck.

You will be able to make the best decision about which tires to buy and ensure that your purchase is the right one if you take the time to do some research and educate yourself about what type of tires your truck really needs.

Lotus Exige Scura

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

While a majority of automakers are bailing out of the Tokyo Motor Show, it is nice to see that there will indeed be a few new models to look at when it comes to be show time. One such vehicle will be a special edition sports car from he light weight English race car builders at Lotus. While the boffins from across the pond have already engineered every unnecessary ounce out of the Exige in the hopes of creating a hard core driving experience, this particularly dark model focuses on making the little Lotus as sinister looking as it is lethal. The special edition Tokyo Motor Show Lotus Exige is named the Scura, which is the Italian word for dark, due to its dramatic black bodywork and a GT3 inspired rear end.

Priced at around $75,000 the Exige Scura features a trio of Phantom Black stripes to break up the large panels of matte black paint, however the carbon fiber bits and suede wrapped racing buckets go a bit further towards showing off the Scura’s true purpose of being an all out competition vehicle. Only now instead of laughing at bright orange bodywork, other drivers will stay out of this Lotus’ way. Like all Exige models the Scura is powered by a supercharged four cylinder engine that delivers a maximum output of 257 HP 174 lb-ft of torque, while it can sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in only 4 seconds and reach a top speed of 152 MPH.

Lotus Cars unveils its latest special edition – the Exige Scura, so called due to its dramatic matt black and carbon fibre theme, at the Tokyo International Motorshow on 21st of October 2009.

Translated as ‘dark’ from Italian, the name ‘Scura’ reflects the stealth character of this already fierce looking Lotus and its stunning soft-feel matt black paint finish. Limited to just 35 cars globally, this Exige evokes a desire to ‘indulge your dark side’. This is a serious looking car and enhancements to performance and a reduction in weight from the production level Exige S means that the Exige Scura demands to be driven by a serious driver.

Contrasting high gloss ‘Phantom Black’ triple stripes run the length of the car and a carbon fibre front splitter, oil cooler inlet vanes, side airscoops and rear spoiler enhance the stunning distinction between the different textures and exaggerate the tactile quality of the velvety touch to the matt black paint finish.

Luke Bennett, Director of Lotus Cars said, “The Exige Scura is a stunning vehicle which offers an adrenaline fuelled experience and is a real head-turner! Our Exige customers choose Lotus because we deliver thrilling performance and dynamic design and this special edition fits the bill on both counts.

Avoiding Vehicle Accidents With Proper Motorbike Safety

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

A motorbike can be a very dangerous piece of equipment, as all licensed bike owners should know. They require their own license to run in the United States and take part in many of the accidents you see. To avoid high insurance premiums and possible legal battles, it’s best to stay a defensive driver.

Many drivers are restricted from driving at night because of decreased visibility. Normal drivers are still safe to drive, but the decreased visibility will only work against sports bike owners who take their bike out for a spin. It’s considered dangerous unless you are within city limits and driving in areas that are well lit. Otherwise your chances at a collision are substantially higher.

Safety comes from good driving, but also safe clothing. You won’t be able to avoid all accidents, since you can’t control how others drive. But you can still increase your chances at surviving without a scratch by wearing the proper safety gear. Materials such as leather will protect against rash in coming into contact with pavement. Armor and padding will alleviate any blows that happen in a collision.

Always follow all speed limits in effect. If you are found to have disobeyed a speed limit by a marginal amount, you could be put at fault and might face a legal settlement as a result. A legal settlement in which you are the defendant could put you liable for all health costs and legal fees of the plaintiff. Essentially, you could be put thousands of dollars into debt from negligence.

The motorbike is highly susceptible to ice and “black ice.” Most are wise enough not to take their motorbikes out during the Winter, as chances of injury increase quite a bit. Motorbikes are seen mostly as an attractive secondary vehicle in areas where Winter hits hard. If you live in southern lands where Winter doesn’t yield snow, it can be more of a long term traveling solution for you instead.

If you are serious about driving your motorbike for a long period of time, you may even wish to move to an area that practices motorbike awareness. Areas with many riders give other drivers a chance to follow safe driving rules with motorbikes. In some areas where there are few bikes, you may see a higher rate of drivers who drive too close or cause accidents from inexperience.

In Conclusion

If you do happen to come into a wreck with your motorbike, you must call a vehicle accident attorney as soon as possible. If you aren’t at fault, you could win a settlement to cover your costs. If you believe you might be at fault, you will need help defending your name.

Considerations When Acquiring Your First Pocket Bike

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

At some stage in most parents lives, their son will ask them if they can get a motorbike. If you have found yourself in this position, then this is the article for you. I would like to introduce you to the world of the pocket bike. We will look at the history of this bike, and explore ways that you can get one without breaking the bank, as well as discussing some important safety aspects that everyone should consider.

As with any new discovery, it is always handy to know a bit about the history before diving in and making a purchase, this will help you to have a better understanding of the machine. Initially the pocket bike was created in Japan. The Japanese have always had a reputation for experimenting with the miniaturization of machinery, and the motorbike is no exception. Soon after they became popular in Japan, they were picked up by Europe and then here in the US.

Initially, the pocket bike was a huge expense, and affordable only by the extremely rich. After time, however, the bike makers realised that there was a large potential to make some decent money of these bikes, and they did everything in their power to bring down both shipping and manufacturing costs so that they would be more affordable to the average joe.

As we can see in present days, this has been very effective in reducing the costs of the pocket bike, to the point where it is an affordable option for most households, and a viable gift for a child who is curious about motorbike bike riding, but not quite ready for a larger dirt bike. You can save even more money by purchasing your bike second hand, either online or through your local newspaper.

Keep in mind though, that you need to know the dangers of buying a pre-loved pocket bike online. In many cases, these bikes will be in tip top condition. The thing is, kids tend to outgrow these bikes fairly quickly, and move on to the larger dirt bikes when they need a bit more grunt. Because of this, these bikes will quite often have little mileage under their belts. But mileage isn’t the only thing you need to worry about. You should get a qualified mechanic to check out the engine thoroughly before handing over your well earned money.

A great way of saving money on the purchase of a new pocket bike is to keep an eye on manufacturers and the release of new models. When a manufacturer brings out a new model of a bike, retailer scramble to get rid of the older models so that they can make room in their showrooms for the new ones. This means that they will drop their prices, and in some cases you can get a real bargain on a new bike.

As with many things, the cheapest models are usually manufactured in Asia. Be wary when purchasing a bike that has been built in China, however, as many people have found that the quality of the engine and its parts are substandard, to say the least. Disgruntled pocket bike owners have quite often found themselves left high and dry with an Asian model. Once they break down, you will find it much harder to get parts for it than a model that has been built in the US. If reliability is what you after, then you are much better off going with something home grown.

Some people forget that the expense does not end with the initial purchase of your pocket bike. You will also need to consider the safety aspects involved. If your child is just learning how to ride, then you will need to be especially careful to ensure that you have all the right safety equipment, such as riding helmets, knee and shin pads, and gloves. If you are wanting to have a street legal pocket bike, then you will need to also consult your particular state laws, as you will probably need to make some further modifications to the bike before you you can ride it on the road.

When Michael is not writing about the world of pocket bike parts, he is teaching people the intricacies of pocket bike tuning.
