Driving School: Are You Being Ripped Off?

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

My neighbor has given up the idea of obtaining a driver’s license. She spent three sessions with an instructor who chatted more on the cell phone than teach her. Also, the car assigned to them kept stalling every few kilometers. Many people complain they have wasted at least five sessions at driving schools without learning much. Here are some strategies to help you make the best of your driving school stint.

Driving tests are not all that a horror as they are made out to be. For any learner with average intelligence, 30 hours of theory and 12 hours on the road for about $400 should be a good enough beginner’s package. However, natural ability to pick up driving, confidence and free time available varies for every learner. You may like to take an intensive course.

Before you start up and pay the driving school, request for a discussion session with your instructor. Decide if you will be comfortable with the person when you go out on the road. You should also request that you be shown the car you will be practicing in. Driving schools are obligated to show you the vehicle that will be used. Some driving schools may even give you a choice. When talking with your instructor, ask him to be clear about what specific topics each lesson will focus on.

Even before you pay your fee, request your instructor to discuss what time will be spent in practical training and what will be spent in the classroom. Preparing for the theory test for your driver’s license can be as rigorous as driving itself. A theory test includes 50 multiple-choice questions and can last an hour. Unless your driving school has prepared you to clear this test, you will not be able to take the practical test.

However, depending entirely on a driving school to help you clear your exam for the driver’s license may not suffice. There are many good manuals and even simulation computer programs available in the market to help you enhance your learning process. You can prepare your own reference booklets or compile tips at the driving school. These leaflets can last a lifetime in your car and you never know when they will come in handy.

Some driving schools, in order to get students interested, offer practical training before giving theoretical lessons. This is not very beneficial for the beginner. Theoretical lessons taken before starting out with a vehicle on the road will give confidence to a learner. Theoretical knowledge prevents accidents as much as careful practical handling of a vehicle. Always insist on taking theory lessons first at any driving school.

Some driving schools focus on teaching groups on a residential basis. If several members of your family wish to enroll together for lessons, you can consider this option at your local club or community organization. For individuals, practical driving lessons can be in the basic or intensive category. Intensive category is for those very short on time or who have earlier taken the basic lessons. As a complete beginner, the basic category of lessons is ideal for you. Most driving school instructors suggest enrolling for practical lessons by adding 60 minutes for every year of your age. In a three-week course, you can cover about ten practical driving hours.

Sometimes, particularly for young people at the beginning of their professional life, taking driving lessons and obtaining a full driver’s license can help them find interim jobs or earn some extra income. Just ensure you take the lessons from the right driving school and are assigned to an instructor you are comfortable with. Getting ripped off at a driving school may be as much a lapse on your part as a fault of theirs.

Difference Between 2005 And 2009 GMC Denali Model

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

GMC Denali, a version of General Motor’s SUV’s recently releases a new version. This is the 2009 GMC Denali. The difference of this model is that it gives an aura of confident road presence due to its muscular form and wide firmly planted stance. It also has minimal overhangs, large wheels, sleek headlamps and a low roof profile. These characteristics allow this car to give an aggressive and performance-oriented appearance.

The 2005 GMC Denali sports a V8 engine capable of 325 horsepower and a torque of 370 lb/ft. The downside to this power is that you only get around at 12 mpg around the city and a lousy 16 mpg on the highway.

While the Denali 2009, for the first time, GM’s two mode hybrid system will be combined with an E-85 ethanol capable engine. It sports a new and more fuel efficient 4.9L SIDI engine with Active Fuel Management powers. It has an estimated 326 horsepower and its fuel consists of 85% ethanol and 15% gas.

The GM’s Quadrasteer 4-wheel steering of the 2005 GMC Denali can decrease the turning circle at low speeds. It is also manufactured to enhance its stability at higher speeds and when towing. While the 4-link suspension design of the 2009 GMC Denali can reduce body roll and optimize longitudinal compliance. It uses a coil over shocks and a decoupled stabilizer that enhances the cowering control. This gives the 2009 GMC Denali the capability of hauling a cargo on twisted roads.

The concept of a unibody structure of the 2009 Denali gave it a truck platform. It even has a payload capacity of 1100 pounds and a 3500 pounds capacity for towing. The stiffness of this model is greater than most conventional body on frame trucks, which gives it a 4-wheel independent suspension mounting point. Allowing this car to have a performance feel on the road.

The 2005 Denali has 3-rows of seats that can accommodate up to nine persons. But the third row can be easily folded, flipped, slides or removed to suits your needs. It even has an adjustable second row bucket seat that offers an excellent support. Whereas the 2009 Denali only has two rows of seats but the midgate can be opened. So the second row seats can be folded to accommodate in the bed something longer like skis or surfboards.

Do you rather want a Tahoe looking SUVs like the 2005 Denali or the hybrid between a suburban and a pick-up at the back like the 2009 GMC Denali? Now, its time for you to decide!

Used Automobile Buying Tips – Six Of Them Make All The Difference!

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

Take the stress out of buying a used automobile with these six tips. All aspects of buying a used car are covered. Be armed to the teeth with information BEFORE you wander into a used car showroom.

ARTICLE: During their lifespan, almost every adult, in this country, is going to buy or sell a used car. Learning how to avoid all the used car pitfalls can be a very valuable skill set to have. Almost every problem, you can imagine when buying a used car, can be turned into a positive result for you; if you do your homework. A lot of good sense will make this journey less eventful and even enjoyable.

1) Budget. Stick to a practical budget you establish. Spend less than your budget – don’t be tempted to spend more. Since most automobile sales are done in cash, transfer the money into a bank account where you can promptly convert it to cash. You must do research first and come up with a budget that you must not surpass.

2) Do your homework. There are lots of sites, on the Web, to rapidly and easily get data and prices of used cars. Any public library has free computer terminals to the Internet and all kinds of subscriptions that they pay for – use them. Find out the Blue Book price or use a Car Cloud to quickly find makes, models, and years of used cars that fit into your budget. Arm yourself before you go shopping.

3) Shop Smart. Marching into a used automobile dealership without doing any kind of research or a budget is asking for problems. You know the salesrep is going to demand “What’s it going to take for you to buy today” and its downhill from there. The models and years that your budge permits is what you must bring with you. Be ready to pay for a CarFax or AutoCheck report for your final car choice if one is not offered.

4) Read the CarFax/AutoCheck for the automobile. You must NOT buy a used car without understanding one of these studies – you can’t just “wing it”, there are way too many scams with the odometer, title, and repair history. Once a car passes the CarFax/AutoCheck you must inspect the car from hood to trunk and know what you are doing.

5) Inspect the car. You must perform a 100+ point inspection of the car whether the automobile is at a dealership or a private sale. The interior, engine, trunk, and undercarriage are all inspected. A flashlight and magnet must be brought; you will need them. Repaired body sections will have the magnet not sticking. The flashlight is used everywhere to look for all forms of inspection places which must pass. If the car passes your inspection it’s time to take a test drive.

6) Test drive the car. Listen to how the car starts and idles. Check the A/C, radio, power windows and locks, wipers, rear window defogger and all lights. Take the car for a test drive down the highway and around the block if the automobile has passed all your tests. Listen for weird noises, smells, and vibrations.

The last step in this process, assuming the previous six items passed, is an car mechanic. Expect to pay the mechanic $100+ to connect computers and run all his diagnostic tests. Make an offer to buy the car if the mechanic gives the thumbs up.

CarFax: How To Read The Report

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

CarFax (CF) is a report that each used car buyer MUST get and understand. CF is either supplied free of charge, by the seller, or you, the buyer, must pay for the study. The typical CF report is 25 pages long – don’t panic there is a review page or two that summarizes the rest of the report. There are 6 divisions to the report:

Vehicle History Report. This is page one of the CarFax – the most key page! This page immediately sums up the entire CF if 1) any accidents, 2) number of previous owners, 3) if the car was leased or corporate vehicle, 4) service records available, 5) detail event records 6) last odometer reading. Is the car a turkey or should you spend more time doing research – CarFax offers immediate answers.

A summary of 1) title troubles, 2) ownership history, and 3) other data follow. Critical items that CarFax has found can be investigated in just seconds. Items CarFax has determined need to be investigated are highlighted – this saves a lot of time and that’s the secret of CarFax.

Accidents, state inspections, all events, change in ownership, etc. are shown in the Details section, under the Vehicle History Report.. Each owner of the automobile has a segment with all the details CarFax has accumulated.

Vehicle Highlights. There are many segments in Vehicle Highlights. The last reported mileage and the number of past owners is summarized in the Ownership History segment. A critical section is the state DMV-Reported Title Problems section. Check if the car’s title has been reclassified into: Salvage, Junk, Rebuilt, Fire/Flood, Hail Damage, or Buyback/Lemon titles. Bypass this used car, if this has happened.

Warranty Check. This is a very handy section that shows various kinds of warranty coverage and if there is any warranty remaining. Reject or confirm any seller’s claim about warranties in this segment. Basic coverage, coverage of the Drive Train, Emissions coverage, Corrosion coverage, and if any of the warranties are transferrable are some of the kinds of warranty coverage tracked by CarFax.

Safety & Reliability Ratings. This is a wonderful section where crash tests are made available from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Just how safe this used car is to drive is covered by front, side, and rear crash results.. Injury, Collision, and Theft Indicator section rates this used car against all automobiles and gives you guidelines as to this automobile’s ranking – below average, average, or better than average. Safety Recalls alert you to manufacturer recalls and you can check if the recall was done to the car. The last segment has a wealth of data – the J.D. Power Rating of this car type.

Buyback Guarantee Certificate (Optional). If the used car qualifies, CF will buyback the car if they screwed up with damage warnings, odometer readings, titles, or a Lemon History reporting. Not all cars qualify and this should be your test too – if CarFax won’t issue a Buyback Guarantee then you should NOT purchase that used car.

Consumer Ratings & Comments. This last segment constitutes feedback from car owners of this identical model, make, and year of automobile. Believe me that car owners who dislike something about this make of car will go out of their way to alert folks like you. Once you use CF you will advise folks of any troubles you have with this make of car.

Making a Used Cars For Sale Experience Good

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

I remember when my best friend and I went to buy her first car. Shed been saving up for a car for months and had finally saved up enough money for a good down payment on a used car for sale and was really excited to get her first car. We went to a few of the local dealerships and got the same experience at every single one. Every time we got there the dealer would come out, look at us, and would immediately look for someone who was supposed to be with us. Granted we were only 20 years old, but how did these dealers now know that we were millionaires or something?

The entire experience was really horrible, and the two of us left every dealership even more dejected than we were when we left the last one! Im not sure why they thought that we were not worth their time, but it was something that really upset us both.

We finally found a dealer who was willing to work with us, and then, when we did, he started pushing us towards the cars that he wanted her to buy, not the ones that she wanted to buy. He made sure that we knew that he thought she could only afford the cheaper cars, and in the end she wound up with a car that she really didnt care for, but thought that it was all that she could afford.

Why does it have to be this way? Why cant you tell people what type of used cars for sale youre looking for and have them come to you? Thankfully now you can. Thanks to the internet you can now look at car buying in an entirely different way.

If youre looking, for instance, for a small 4 door car that is 4 cylinder and that is in a certain price range, you can now find it! Thanks to the internet the way that we used to think you had to buy cars is officially gone, and now you can buy the car that you want, and not the car that the dealer things that you should be in.

And this is a great tool for sellers as well. Sellers can now put their used cars online for sale and can get a much wider and more rapid response. Those who are trying to sell their cars can look online and can see if there is anyone who wants a car like theirs, making it easier to reach someone who actually wants to buy your car and making is so that you dont have to settle for whatever the car dealer is going to give you for the car.

This is going to be a great tool for college students as well, which we were at the time, because this way no one has to be made to feel as dejected as we were on the trips that we took to the used car dealerships.

Learn The Art Of Paintless Dent Removal Like The Pros

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

For most car owners, the thought of restoring a car after a collison is daunting. It can be very pricey if the car has been severely damaged. However, these can be easily fixed without the expensive paint jobs and bodywork repair involved

Most minor bodywork issues can be repaired in a matter of minutes, when done by a well-trained, skilled professional. Understanding the process will help you to know what to look for in these unfortunate circumstances.

Usually, collision shops don’t do these smaller repairs themselves they outsource them to a smaller mobile service or they will offer paintless dent removal as an additional service. Dents from the size of a dime to 2 to 3 inches in diameter and larger can be handled by a qualified professional in anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes.

In many cases the dent is so completely gone it will look like nothing was ever there, and in some other instances, all you would see to know that work had been done is a small black plug in the door end. Paintless dent removal is often the best way to retain the integrity of a custom paint job. In the hands of a qualified professional, 10 to 15 vehicles a day can be done with amazing results.

Not Always the Answer The main concern in paintless dent removal is how much the metal was stressed (stretched) by the accident. The reason for this concern is that if the metal is stretched too much, then pushing it as it?s done in paintless dent removal can distort the metal and ruin the paint. The other consideration in paintless dent removal is the nature of the coating. Its age can make the coating brittle, or simply its condition as it left the factory. The reason that this is a concern for paintless dent removal is that a heat gun needs to be applied, and the above conditions can be very susceptible to heat ruining the coating.

Light is also used to determine all of the intricacies of the dented surface, so that there are no flaws showing when the job is complete.

Training, Techniques, and Tools It takes more time than you might think to train as a paintless dent removal technician, it takes about 12 months to train to be a good one, and that?s because you need to know all about access to the dent. Paintless dent removal technicians need to spend around $3,000 on tools because specialized tools are needed to access difficult areas in different makes and models.

So the next time you have a dent, ding, or crease, think about the paintless dent removal system, and ask if it can be done, if it can your pocketbook will thank you.

Car Respray In 5 Easy Steps – Car Spray Painting

Friday, June 26th, 2009

Respraying your car implies you’re prepared to devote some time and money to complete this project. Theres zero reason why you can’t do this yourself, but you are going to need some guide lines. Unless of course you are already a professional car painter.

First off make up your mind to accept that you are not going to get the same professional looking job by utilising spray paints from a can. That is not to say you cant use them and get decent results. Just dont raise your expectations to high. Re-spraying your car will take some getting used to.

First Step: Do all of your sanding of the rough spots, and filling of the holes. There’s no point in doing this after you have cleaned the car you will just be defeating the purpose of washing the car in the first place.

2nd step: You must begin with a clean car. If you dont then your final paint finish will be a mess. Every last bit of debris that you left on the car would be obvious after the respraying.

Hint: If your car is wet and you shine a light on it you will clearly see whatsoever imperfections that you didnt catch in the first or second step

3rd Step Now youve to cover off all of the regions where you don’t want paint. If you are not genuinely patient in this step you can end up being truly sorry that you did not. It will be a shame to have a pleasant paint finish, but half the paint is on the windows or chrome.

4th Step Practise a little with your spray. There is a little of a technique to it. Remember we said that respraying your car does take some time. Practise on a piece of card board. That way you are not as likely to get squirts or blobs of paint. Keep the spray running endlessly, and in very light coats. Various light coats of paint are far better to two thick ones, that will look really uneven.

5th Step Allow the coats of paint to dry at least 1 hour in between. Then apply the finishing coat. Once more this should be applied simply like the paint. A flowing motion with merely a really light coating.

By taking your time to do the job right and following these respraying instructions you should end up with a very great completed project. If you try and take short-cuts then this is where your troubles will start.

Make sure you utilise good quality tools and products. Take your time, because when you start to rush a stage then that is where errors take place. Bear in mind to utilise the proper safety measures such as the correct protective gear.

Ideally it helps to be able to re-spray your car on a warm sunny day, as it aids to set or bake the paint on, leaving a better finish.

So keep in mind before you begin, do your search on the how tos and have all your equipment and supplies at hand, and you are set to go for it.
