The 1969 Camaro is the epitome of the classic muscle car. Camaro had introduced the Chevrolet Camaro line of cars two years before and, with the 1969 Camaro, Chevrolet established a name for itself for all time.

The 1969 Camaro featured a singular design which drastically differed from its predecessors. Chevrolet decided to make the Camaro sportier and more aggressive looking for the 1969 model and the car received some strong, dominant lines which was not found on earlier models of the Camaro. Although, mechanically, the 1969 Camaro only differed slightly from earlier models, the 1969 Camaro had a different overall look. The lines of the car featured heavy creases while the the design of the grille changed to a heavily canting “V” layout. The headlights were deeply inset into the body. By changing the door skins, the rear valance panel and the quarter panels of the 1969 Camaro, Chevrolet gave the car a much wider and lower stance contributing to the aggressive look of the car. The 1969 Camaro is unique in that its design lasted only for that single car model year.

Performance options for the 1969 Camaro was also impressive. The best engine available for the car was a V-8 302 cid engine with an output of 290 hp at 5800 rpm. The 1969 Camaro achieved 0 to 60 at 7.4 seconds and ran the quarter mile at 15.12 seconds with a speed of 94.8 mph. The highest engine displacement available for the 1969 Camaro was 302 cid and, while the car already had exceptional performance on the road, many customers wanted a bigger engine under their 1969 Camaro’s hood. Unfortunately, GM had forbidden any engine installation on the Camaro bigger than 400 cid. Dealers solved this problem by installing the engines themselves so that a few 1969 Camaro models featured a 427 cid engine. Due to the high demand, Chevrolet soon had to use their “special order or bulk order” ordering process to install 427 engines on the car.

A special and rare model of the 1969 Camaro is the Yenko Camaro. The Yenko Camaro is named after the dealer Don Yenko who ordered 201 1969 Camaro cars fitted with an L72 big-block engine which was underrated with an output of 425 hp. The popularity of the Yenko Camaro soon reached spread and other Camaro dealers began ordering the car. These cars have gained legendary status and are quite rare.
